Fitter & Turner

At MPK Electrical, we offer a comprehensive Fitter and Turner Training Program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components and machinery. Our program is accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) of South Africa.

Program Structure:

The Fitter and Turner Training Program is structured to provide a blend of theoretical instruction and practical experience:

Fabrication of Metal Parts: Learn to fabricate metal components using various machining methods and engineering tools.

Assembly and Maintenance: Gain hands-on experience in fitting, assembling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and machines.

Fault Diagnosis and Repair: Develop the ability to diagnose and rectify issues within mechanical assemblies and machinery during production or operation.

Role of a Fitter and Turner:

Fitters and Turners are skilled artisans responsible for fabricating, assembling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical components and machinery. They play a crucial role in various industries, including manufacturing, mining, and marine sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Applying hand skills to fabricate mechanical components using engineering tools.

Producing components of complexity using a variety of machining methods.

Fault-finding, dismantling, maintaining, repairing, and installing complex mechanical assemblies.

Diagnosing and repairing equipment and machinery during production or operation.

Apprenticeship Program
  • 6 Months – Workshop-based learning
  • 18 Months – On-site practical training
  • 6 Months – Final trade test preparation & gap closure
Trade Test Under ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning)
  • 2 Days – ARPL Assessments
  • 3 to 6 Weeks – Trade test preparation
  • 2 to 3 Days – Final trade test assessments
Requirements

Must be 19 years or older
3+ years of work experience
Any of the following qualifications: Grade 9, 10, or 12 / N3, N4, N5, N6
