Boilermaking Training
At MPK Electrical, we offer a comprehensive Boilermaking Training Program designed to equip students with the skills necessary to excel in the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of boilers, tanks, and other large vessels. Our program is accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) of South Africa.
Program Structure:
The Boilermaking Training Program is divided into multiple phases, each combining theoretical instruction with practical workplace training:
Phase 1: Focuses on foundational theory and basic practical skills.
Phase 2: Builds upon Phase 1, introducing more advanced concepts and applications.
Phase 3: Prepares students for the Trade Test, with up to 8 weeks dedicated to intensive training.
Role of a Boilermaker:
A Boilermaker is trained and qualified to construct, assemble, maintain, and repair large containers and vessels that hold liquids and gases, such as boilers and tanks. They work from detailed drawings or specifications, using hand and machine tools, as well as precision measuring instruments. Boilermakers play a crucial role in various industries, including power generation, manufacturing, and construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
- Assembling and installing boilers, tanks, and other large vessels
- Inspecting and testing completed structures for quality and safety
- Performing maintenance and repairs on existing structures
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations

Apprenticeship Program
- 6 Months – Workshop-based learning
- 18 Months – On-site practical training
- 6 Months – Final trade test preparation & gap closure
Trade Test Under ARPL (Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning)
- 2 Days – ARPL Assessments
- 3 to 6 Weeks – Trade test preparation
- 2 to 3 Days – Final trade test assessments
Requirements
Must be 19 years or older
3+ years of work experience
Any of the following qualifications: Grade 9, 10, or 12 / N3, N4, N5, N6
